Our Host Families

While we're in Uganda, we'll be living with two different Ugandan families.  The family that I (Lydia) will be living with is the Kigozis, a family that lives in Kalisizo, a town in south central Uganda.  Mr. Kigozi is a medical doctor, while Mrs. Kigozi is a public health specialist and quality controller for the research organization that they both work for: the Rakai Project.  Their home has electricity and running water as well as Wi-Fi Internet.  They have four children (ages 15, 8, 3, and 1).

Julian meanwhile will be living with Nantume Betty Senyomo and her three children (ages 24, 15, and 13).  His host mother also works for the Rakai Project as a supervisor, and her house is located in Kalisizo as well.  Her house is a permanent house with running water, electricity and a small garden nearby.

While the community that we're living in is not the same as that in which we plan on working on deploying the nodes, the connection to local culture that living with our host families provide will certainly be invaluable in better understanding and interacting with the community in which we work.  The manner in which relationships are built and business conducted in Uganda is foreign to both Julian and myself, and we're very excited to meet our host families!
